ABOUT BAYSIDE NEWS

Bayside News is an Online, Digital and Hard Copy publishing platform for people who live, work or play in the Woollahra Municipality and nearby areas.

It uniquely allows professional journalists and designers to work alongside members of the public, business owners and members of community groups to publish local community News, Articles, Special Offers and Events, Online, in Digital Format and in Hard Copy.

Allowing people to work together in real time shortens production times, improves communication, avoids duplication of work, reduces production costs and builds a community network that PUTS "COMMUNITY" BACK INTO COMMUNITY PUBLISHING

COMMUNITY NEWS UNTIL RECENTLY

Picture
Here is how community news was published until recently: -
  • News came into the office or was collected by journalists
  • Articles had to be written and images found for publication
  • Advertising had to be sourced to provide funds for publishing
  • Publishing layouts had to be agreed and be attractive and informative
  • As news came in it filled the spaces in the agreed layouts
  • Designers had to design artwork ready for printing
  • Everything had to be brought together in one place
  • Everything had to be proof read for accuracy
  • Editors were responsible to oversee the final result
  • Artwork then went to the printers for printing
  • And the papers then had to be distributed
ALL THIS HAD TO HAPPEN BEFORE IT WAS MADE PUBLIC

IMAGINE A NEW APPROACH
WHERE EVERYONE WORKS IN PARALLEL

AND NEWS IS PUBLISHED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY

Here's how it works: -
  • Journalists, Editors, Designers, Proof Readers and Contributors all work together in one network at the same time
  • They can share information with each other both in Private or in Public any time they choose, day or night
  • News can be published directly to Local Communities and proof read and edited in real time
  • Content is also vetted by all members of the network and taken down if needs be
  • Selected content can be taken by Designers for the Monthly Bayside News Digital Magazine
  • It has already been published and proof read so back and forth emails are not required to get approval
  • At the same time work can be taking place on creation of the Quarterly Bayside News Hard Copy Magazine

The structure also offers other benefits: -
  • Over 20 Local Communities are being kept up to date with news in real time
  • The network also contains Businesses, Community Groups and Members of the Public
  • Members of the network can get to know each other and build friendships as well as work together
  • It allows  people to work from anywhere they like, as much as they like, and whenever they like
  • "Cub" journalists, volunteers and people doing magazine distribution can also join the team
  • The structure is open and flexible so new ideas and suggestions can often be adopted
  • It provides jobs and puts publishing back into the hands of the local community
  • The local economy is boosted as wages paid stay mostly within the area
  • It is also run by locals who are easily accessible and accountable
  • It provides trusted content and guards against "fake news"
  • IT'S PUTTING "COMMUNITY" BACK INTO COMMUNITY PUBLISHING
